- This is possibly one of the most basic questions to configuring/setting
- up AmiTCP, so I apologize in advance:
-
- Setup: AmiTCP 4.0, PPP 1.3, both unregistered, using BaudBandit.device
- at 38400, 7WIRE as only other option.
-
- Problem: Every time I attempt to activate ppp.device, AmiTCP barfs.
- This is both with trying startnet and online to activate it. Courtesy
- of SnoopDos, this is what happens when I try an online command to start
- the device: device is opened, DTR is activated, config is obtained,
- serial device is opened (BaudBandit in this case), intuition.library
- and timer.device are accessed, and the transmit and receive lights on my
- modem start to blink, with the system doing absolutely nothing. In a
- few moments, I get a "device driver is offline" message.
-
- Suspicions: For some reason, ever since I started using
- BaudBandit.device, serial.device wants to go to it, and I have no idea
- why. On occasion, when I tried specifying serial.device instead of
- BaudBandit.device on the PPP.config, BaudBandit was still accessed
- according to SnoopDos. This scares me, for some reason. Also, this
- behavior was similar to that exhibited by MUI applications when I was
- testing out the 3.0 alpha that was floating around prior to the release
- of 3.1...
-
- Variant setups: I've tried it with serial.device in place of
- BaudBandit.device. I've also tried various combinations of CD, SHARED,
- and USEODU. Yes, I've even placed an online command at the beginning
- of startnet.
-
- Question: What am I doing wrong? And how can I correct it? My
- already-paid new provider uses PPP only, so this is a necessity.
- Thanks in advance for your help.
