  11. This is possibly one of the most basic questions to configuring/setting
  12. up AmiTCP, so I apologize in advance:

  14. Setup:  AmiTCP 4.0, PPP 1.3, both unregistered, using BaudBandit.device
  15. at 38400, 7WIRE as only other option.
  16.  
  17. Problem:  Every time I attempt to activate ppp.device, AmiTCP barfs.
  18. This is both with trying startnet and online to activate it.  Courtesy
  19. of SnoopDos, this is what happens when I try an online command to start
  20. the device:  device is opened, DTR is activated, config is obtained,
  21. serial device is opened (BaudBandit in this case), intuition.library
  22. and timer.device are accessed, and the transmit and receive lights on my
  23. modem start to blink, with the system doing absolutely nothing.  In a
  24. few moments, I get a "device driver is offline" message.

  26. Suspicions:  For some reason, ever since I started using
  27. BaudBandit.device, serial.device wants to go to it, and I have no idea
  28. why.  On occasion, when I tried specifying serial.device instead of
  29. BaudBandit.device on the PPP.config, BaudBandit was still accessed
  30. according to SnoopDos.  This scares me, for some reason.  Also, this
  31. behavior was similar to that exhibited by MUI applications when I was
  32. testing out the 3.0 alpha that was floating around prior to the release
  33. of 3.1...

  35. Variant setups:  I've tried it with serial.device in place of
  36. BaudBandit.device.  I've also tried various combinations of CD, SHARED,
  37. and USEODU.  Yes, I've even placed an online command at the beginning
  38. of startnet.

  40. Question:  What am I doing wrong?  And how can I correct it?  My
  41. already-paid new provider uses PPP only, so this is a necessity.
